I like to draw by hand, pencils and coloured markers. This doesn't mean doing everything the hard way: I use rulers, tracing paper, lightpads, etc. So I've accumulated various drawing aids, and have bought or built some that are more unusual. Whatever the tool or gadget, I'm still the one who makes the final marks on paper.
A very old problem is transferring the proportions of the subject accurately onto paper. The Neo Lucida is an optical device that combines the subject and the paper into a single image. I bought one, then started building my own.
Using an existing drawing as a guide is another old technique, but these days many of the drawings I want to use as a base are digital. So I built a device to use my iPhone as a projector.
